Newsletter 20 - Friday 14th February

What an amazing last week of term we have had at New Horizons Children's Academy. Children in EYFS came dressed up for their 'When I grow up' day and have been excitedly telling the adults and all their friends about the career that inspires them. We have seen a huge range of jobs; teachers, doctors, nurses, police, ballerinas, astronauts, pilots and many more ! Thank you to EYFS parents and carers for all your support in providing costumes. Another highlight for EYFS was the visit from Kent Fire and Rescue today. Children learnt all about safety if there is a fire and enjoyed learning about all the different equipment in the fire engine. The hose caused a lot of excitement !

Newsletter 19 - Friday 7th February

This has been a truly memorable week with a buzz of excitement from lots of different events across the school. A particular highlight has been the trip to Young Voices with the choir on Wednesday night. Young Voices is the largest children's choir in the world with over 8000 children singing together at the O2. We were immensely proud of the children at New Horizons who sang beautifully and were fantastically well behaved throughout the trip and a real credit to the school. Thank you also to all the staff that supported the trip; Miss Xavier-Cope, Miss Ellis, Mrs Davies and Miss Colverson. I also enjoyed accompanying the trip. We had a fantastic evening and were even given a suite which was a real luxury that we didn't expect !

Newsletter 18 Friday 31st January

As a Thinking School, we always encourage children to become independent, articulate, creative and reflective thinkers and this week children have continued to show fantastic thinking skills in their learning across the curriculum. Children in Year 5 have been making surrealist sculptures and enjoyed showing their creative designs to me and explaining their thinking. I also heard all about the 'Time Travel' topic in Year 5 where we had an engaging discussion about the concept of time travel. In Year 1, I saw children captivated by their science investigations and able to apply the knowledge they had learnt to their thinking.

Newsletter 17 Friday 24th January

This week we have continued to have safety workshops in Year 4 and Year 5. Children have learnt more about independent travel and how to ensure safety when crossing roads, for example using a pelican crossing ensuring they have the skills they need. It has been a hive of activity and learning across the school. In EYFS children have been keen to share their maths' learning this week and have learnt about capacity and weight including what is heavier and lighter. They also enjoyed a forest school session and time reading with parents and carers.

Newsletter 16 Friday 17th January

This week children at New Horizons have been working really hard to demonstrate the values of respect, responsibility and kindness as well as aspire, challenge and achieve. In particular I have noticed children working hard to improve their writing. Year 2 have worked hard on writing diary entries and Year 6 have also produced excellent writing as well as geographical map work.
