At New Horizons, we have had a number of recent awards to celebrate which all demonstrate fantastic achievements. Not only have we been re-accredited as an Advanced Thinking School as I communicated a few weeks ago, but also we have been re-awarded our Gold Artsmark award too. In addition, we have a particular special mention for Miss Kingsland in Year 5 who has won the 'Medway Primary Teacher of the Year Award' in the Trust annual awards. Congratulations to Miss Kingsland !

This week at New Horizons we had a wonderful VE Day celebration on Thursday 8th May. Children across the school learnt about the events of VE day in 1945. They learnt about its significance in history and why we still remember it today. In the afternoon we had a whole school picnic on the playground and listened to 1940s music. Children made their own jam sandwiches and enjoyed eating them with cakes too.

Year 4 have had an amazing week where many children attended a Residential at Kingswood in Ashford. There was also excitement in store for all the children that stayed in school with a visit to the cinema and a whole range of other fun activities including a visit from Creepy Claws. On the Residential children participated in adventurous activities such as orienteering, the leap of faith, fencing and survival skills. They were so lucky with the weather and all had a memorable experience. Thank you to all the staff that looked after the children so well on the Residential.

Welcome back to Term 5. On Monday we had a productive start to the term celebrating World Earth Day. We found out in assembly that the reason Earth Day started in 1970 was after an oil spill that took place off the coast of USA. Children were really interested to learn about climate change, fossil fuels, pollution and ways that we can protect the earth and all take our part.

This has been a busy final week of the term with lots of celebrations and successes. Father Barry from St Michael's Church visited for a special Easter assembly and on Thursday children in Year 2 visited Tyland Barn exploring habitats and minibeasts. Children in EYFS also enjoyed an exciting Easter egg hunt in the sunshine this afternoon. Thank you to EYFS parents and carers with the EYFS Easter Egg Raffle where £160 has been raised. Well done to all the Big Quiz winners round one and in particular to Bisma in Apple, Victor in Poplar and Judah in Juniper who will be entering round 2 with other TSAT winners.

Newsletter 25 - Friday 28th March

This week at New Horizons has been a celebration of all the wonderful cultures in our school. It started on Monday with children wearing clothes associated with their culture. Children looked fantastic and it was amazing to hear all about the different cultures and languages that are part of the children's heritage. This included hearing about Nigeria, Ghana, St Lucia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Poland, new Zealand, Ireland to name just a few. We really have a fully diverse and multicultural school which was great for the children to see and discuss. Children also enjoyed exploring dual citizenship and understanding that they may be British and also from another country. Thank you to all the parents that have come into school this week to talk to classes about their cultures. Thank you for volunteering your time to talk to the children. We know they have gained so much from this week.
