Newsletter 26 - Friday 4th April

This has been a busy final week of the term with lots of celebrations and successes. Father Barry from St Michael's Church visited for a special Easter assembly and on Thursday children in Year 2 visited Tyland Barn exploring habitats and minibeasts. Children in EYFS also enjoyed an exciting Easter egg hunt in the sunshine this afternoon. Thank you to EYFS parents and carers with the EYFS Easter Egg Raffle where £160 has been raised. Well done to all the Big Quiz winners round one and in particular to Bisma in Apple, Victor in Poplar and Judah in Juniper who will be entering round 2 with other TSAT winners.

Newsletter 25 - Friday 28th March

This week at New Horizons has been a celebration of all the wonderful cultures in our school. It started on Monday with children wearing clothes associated with their culture. Children looked fantastic and it was amazing to hear all about the different cultures and languages that are part of the children's heritage. This included hearing about Nigeria, Ghana, St Lucia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Poland, new Zealand, Ireland to name just a few. We really have a fully diverse and multicultural school which was great for the children to see and discuss. Children also enjoyed exploring dual citizenship and understanding that they may be British and also from another country. Thank you to all the parents that have come into school this week to talk to classes about their cultures. Thank you for volunteering your time to talk to the children. We know they have gained so much from this week.

Newsletter 24 - Friday 21st March

At New Horizons we have had another busy and productive week. We have had several visitors this week including Trust Regional Directors as well as a TSAT trustee. Our visitors all commented on the positive attitudes to learning shown by the children and were impressed with our recent initiatives such as the development of our library space. Thank you and well done to Year 3 who have all now performed their class assemblies over the last few weeks. It has been lovely to see their growing confidence on the stage. Thank you to all the parents and carers that came along to watch them.

At New Horizons this week we have been taking part in a variety of exciting Science Week activities across the school. For example; Year 3 children took part in an experiment to investigate dissolving different types of sugars, Year R children have been finding out all about melting, Year 2 have been planting cress seeds and in Year 6 children have learnt about antigens and antibodies. They also created an inclusive playground game where anyone could participate regardless of ability or disability. There was even a live lesson with Tim Peake, a British Astronaut on Monday.

Newsletter 22 - Friday 7th March

It has been another busy week at New Horizons and great to see the sun shining. World Book Day on Thursday was a great success. It was fantastic to see children dressed as their favourite book characters and talk about all the books that they enjoy reading at home and at school. Children took part in live lessons and a variety of World Book Day themed activities including a World Book Day competition to design a character. It was also lovely to see older children reading together with younger children during the afternoon. Thank you for all your support with costumes and we hope children enjoyed the day.
