Welcome to our Nursery Class

Our Staff:
The EYFS Phase Lead is Miss Hales.
The Nursery staff are Mrs Harland and Miss Bell.

Our warm and welcoming Early Years provision offers the perfect start to a child’s educational life, where children learn both inside and outside and are given time to explore, concentrate, persist and develop their thinking. We are committed to developing children from a young age, fostering their interest in learning and establishing positive and caring relationships.

At New Horizons Children's Academy, we take a holistic approach to learning, which fits the whole school’s ethos: ‘Children first, Aspire, Challenge, Achieve’, combine this with a happy, purposeful atmosphere for foundation learning and a rich, varied Early Years curriculum and you have the ingredients for a child’s best possible start.

Our experienced staff work hard to ensure that every child participates fully in all the key areas of learning through a curriculum which has a strong emphasis on play and enjoyment. The joy of learning is a solid foundation to lay at this crucial stage. “Making learning irresistible”.

Children are taught by qualified Nursery staff and have dedicated mid-day supervisors. The Nursery has a carefully designed space both inside and outside that encompasses all areas of the Early Years framework allowing children to grow in independence, curiosity and confidence. Children who attend the Nursery have access to the facilities of the school including playing fields, Forest School, 3G Pitch, ICT suite, library, music studio and a large indoor hall. Children are also very much part of New Horizons Primary School participating in whole school events and have opportunities to spend time with older children.

Our Nursery is a caring environment where all children are encouraged to succeed and are treated as individuals. Our school values of respect kindness and responsibility are also embedded within our Nursery and prepare our children for the next stage of starting primary school.

It includes a wet area for messy play and creative activities as well as designated learning zones for literacy, maths, small world and role play. There is also an interactive whiteboard screen and an inviting reading area. The classroom space has been developed to encompass all areas of the EYFS curriculum ensuring continuous and enhanced provision throughout the day.

Outdoor Environment

Our outdoor learning space is a secure and safe space for children to learn and play. It enables children to explore across the different areas of learning providing opportunities for their social, emotional and physical development.

It includes water and sand play as well as a large climbing frame. There is a roadway for cycling, a mud kitchen and areas for planting and digging. We also have fixed musical instruments, chalkboard, white board and painting board.

Working in partnership with parents

We encourage a strong parent partnership and recognise the importance of everyone working together. We build positive relationships with children and families through:

  • Home visits prior to your child beginning Nursery and so we can share time in the place most familiar to the child with the parents who know them best.
  • Introductory sessions to the Nursery so that parents can meet staff and see the school in action.
  • An open door policy where you are able to meet with staff to discuss any queries you may have.
  • School Newsletters and weekly learning updates.
  • Parental workshops
  • Stay and play sessions
  • End of Year Report at the end of each academic year

All children have Home/Nursery School contact books and reading records.
