School Update – Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Following the Government’s most recent Covid-19 update on Sunday 10th May it is important to note that there are no immediate changes in the education or child care provision made by schools.

Therefore, schools will continue to provide distance learning support for students and child care for Key Workers who have provided 24 hours notice of their intention to use the child care facility.

As you will be aware, the government has announced the expectation that Primary schools will begin a phased transition to school based learning from 1st June for Years R, 1 and 6.

We are working closely with the Local Authorities and the Department For Education to ensure the most effective and safe return to school for students and staff. We will be in contact you shortly to update you on our plans.

Please continue to check your mailboxes and this website for updates.

Thank you for your continued support.

SEND Inclusion Award

Dear Parents/Carers,

You may know that over the past 15 months, New Horizons Children’s Academy has been working towards achieving the SEND Inclusion Award.

The SEND Inclusion Award offers mainstream schools the opportunity to review, develop and gain accreditation for their provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Schools are required to reflect on, and improve their provision in line with a series of objectives that fulfil both Ofsted criteria and the SEND Code of Practice. Specifically, the award concentrates on ‘outcomes’ for pupils and how schools can demonstrate the impact of their SEND provision. The award leads schools through a process of self-evaluation, action planning and evidence collection before verification and accreditation.

On 29th March 2019, our verification visit took place and I am pleased to inform you that we gained the accreditation. We have also been informed that we are the first school in Kent to have achieved the accreditation, which is a huge achievement for the whole school community.

I would like to thank the pupils and parents/carers who actively supported the school in the process and attended meetings with the verifier on the day, contributing positively and supporting the evidence already gathered. I would also like to thank Miss Thornton, our Inclusion Manager, as well as the Inclusion Team for their continued commitment to providing the best opportunities for all children in our school.

We are thrilled with the result and feel that the accreditation supports the hard work of staff at New Horizons and accurately reflects the provision provided for pupils with SEND as well as the progress they make.

We plan to build on this achievement through continual monitoring of provision and reflection of our strengths and areas for development.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J Murphy
